Councilmember, Ward 1 (2020 - 2022)
Prior to being elected Mayor, Joel served in a variety of Town roles including Councilmember for Ward 1, co-chair of the Development Overview Committee, chair of the Sustainaiblity Committee, and Mayor Pro-Tempore.
As Mayor, Joel approaches problems with a "can-do" attitude, pushing people to achieve results for the University Park community. A primary goal for Joel has been to make substantive progress on projects that have been budgeted for several years but have not been initiated.

United States Army Reserve
Lieutenant Colonel, Retired
(1997 - 2023)
Joel retired from the Army Reserve with 25 years of continuous service. He served as an Enlisted Soldier (Sergeant) from 1997 - 2003 and then commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant.
Joel served in Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2005 - 2006. He also completed numerous assignments including company command and roles as a Deputy Director for the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Directorate for Intelligence (J2).
Senior Intelligence Analyst (2006 - 2015)
Management Consultant (2017 - Present)
Joel supported the Defense Intelligence Agency from 2006 - 2015 in numerous roles. He deployed to Iraq on three separate occasions and also to Afghanistan in support of DIA missions.
After obtaining a Master of Business Administration degree, Joel moved into management consulting where he supported a variety of federal agencies leading major strategic initiatives. Joel has supported the Department of the Army, Department of the Navy, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Defense Health Agency, and the National Reconnaissance Office, among others.
Legislative Aide
Wisconsin State Assembly
(2003 - 2006)
After earning a Bachelors Degree in Political Science, Joel obtained a role in the Wisconsin State Legislature. As one of two aides supporting a senior state representative, Joel quickly gained experience in policymaking and legislation. Joel has extensive experience in taking bright ideas, moving them through the legislative process, and seeing them become law.
